email - chintan@turtlejet.netThe mobile application development and the web application development arenas have grown by leaps and bounds and have witnessed trends that till a few years back could only be justified as a figment of pronounced imagination. With Microsoft’s Windows OS and the Apple OS becoming a regular feature on mobile devices it wasn ’t long before Google stepped into the fray with their Chrome OS. The Android OS and the related Android application development have already taken the market by storm and usurped established positions of many a competitors. With the Chrome OS slated to be optimized for mobile devices like netbooks or tablets, Google would put itself in good steed to make up lost ground in the OS arena.
PC manufacturer Acer is slated to release the prototypes or the first devices running on Google’s Chrome OS in the coming months. There is still ambiguity over the fact of whether the OS would be for netbooks, tablets or both. Google’s own notebooks would release by the year end and preliminary opinions of experts say that the Chrome OS would be optimally suited for devices sporting keyboards and trackpads; netbooks and smartbooks to be precise. Google is being touted to be the next big thing in the OS arena. Launched in November, Chrome was introduced as a light weight; browser based operating system designed for netbooks characterized by reduced booting time of less than 7 seconds. The aim of the OS is to transmute computing into a rapid boot, browser based experience which would be much faster and better than an oversized OS and desktop apps. Google has also come forwards saying that the OS would target devices like tablets housing ARM processors designed for mobile devices. Acer is all pepped and perked up to be the first company introducing Chrome powered PCs and expects to launch its products in the later half of the year. The pricing being estimated is also competitive and on the same lines as devices running Microsoft’s Windows operating system and Acer hopes to sell around a million devices since their inception. Other netbook manufacturers are also slowly catching on and efforts are on to cash in on this arena of opportunities that’s sure to open up after the first wave of devices hit the market.
The mobile application development, Android application development and web application development communities will also be awaiting the launch with bated breath as it would represent major business avenues and development opportunities.
