Social Networking Gets a Beef Up Through Privacy Tools on Facebook

The Social network development communities have been striving to lend the virtual networking world a safer and more secure touch. As the social networking services rendered by innovative community portals reach a wider audience with each passing second, tons of classified and personal information is being uploaded onto the web in the form of personal details, photographs, workplaces, behavioural patterns etc... This poses a serious security threat with access boundaries dwindling in the face of smarter bypass and hacking strategies.

Facebook has launched its own tools to counter the recent threats that have rocked their ship. Owing to the staggering number of registered users that Facebook supports, its numerous profiles present a goldmine of personal information that in the wrong hands can lead to disastrous results. The two tools launched by Facebook are aimed at disallowing anonymous entities and spammers from accessing a user ’ account and alerting users about the suspicious activity. One of the tools provides users with the facility to manually approve the devices that they would generally use to log-in and receive e-mail or text notifications. It would push an alert to the user if any other unapproved device is used to access the account. This opt-in feature is being made available to users under the Account Settings page where they can opt to receive notifications about log-in attempts from other devices. Suspicious attempts at logging into accounts would lead to Facebook providing security roadblocks in the form of identifiers like date of birth, identifying a friend in a photograph or answering a previously-provided security question. Also user after logging in would be able to see the history of login attempts and thus can change their passwords if they found any thing that seems of the usual. These tools have been developed by Facebook after rigorous development and research that spanned several weeks. As a favoured and credible platform for social networking services to thrive across the globe, Facebook has an inherent responsibility to provide a safety harness to its loyal patrons. Facebook has come under heavy fire after the recent spate of attacks on user accounts and numerous complaints by user about their private data being infringed upon. This release of tools is in response to the concern raised by millions across the globe and hopefully will turn the tide back in Facebook ’s favour.

World-wide Social network development and social networking services communities strive every moment to connect users from all corners of the world and to enable sharing of information for various objectives ranging from personal to business related. In such scenarios, providing a security jacket that promises safety and privacy of information and personal place is the foundation that should be built to promote a sense of trust and free exchange of ideas and innovation.
